CCC eyes grand double as Premier league resumes on July 14

CCC won the SLC T20 title this season.

The defending champions CCC will be aiming to complete a grand double when the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Premier League Inter-Club Tier ‘A’ Cricket Tournament resumes on July 14.

The team from Maitland Crescent has already annexed the SLC Inter-Club Twenty20 title this season and will look to continue the same form when they take on Ragama CC in the Super Eight opening fixture at Katunayake.

CCC has all the reasons to feel confident going in to the final phase of the league after having remained unbeaten during the preliminary-round of this 14-team tournament.

They were able to record four outright victories out of their six games and drew two matches in Group ‘A’ to finish with a final tally of 97.5 points which is the best achieved by any team.

The closest to matching CCC was the former champions Chilaw Marians CC which recorded three outright victories to top the Group ‘B’ with a final tally of 65.71 points.

However, Chilaw Marians CC’s reputation was shattered following two shock defeats and now they will look to make a strong start when they confront BRC at the NCC Grounds in Maitland Place.

Meanwhile, SSC has been pushed into the Place Championship this season and will start their campaign with a game against the Tamil Union on July 17 at Maggona.

SSC of course remained unbeaten during the preliminary-round but they managed to register only a solitary outright win while competing in Group ‘A’.
