Lalith Athulathmudali Vidyalaya Mt. Lavinia are going great guns this year in the under 13 All Island Division Three Cricket Tournament and they are unbeaten through out the season. Cricket was introduced to the College by former Principal T. S. Silva in 1991. They are among the 32 schools selected for the final round out of 400 schools in the island.
Their captain Payagalage Don Tharaka Sathyajith played a vital role in the success of his Alma Mater in this tournament. He is an all rounder who bats right hand and bowls right arm off spin. His school participated in ten matches and they were unbeaten thorough out. He scored 380 runs with two fifties and the highest score being 64 runs against St. Joseph’s College, Nugegoda at an average of 39.7 and he captured 46 wickets with one ten wicket haul against M. D. H. Jayawardene Vidyalaya, Padukka with 12 for 21 (6/11 and 6/10) and three five wicket hauls and the best analysis is against St. Joseph’s College, Nugegoda College with 8 for 16 and his average is 7.8. He had fine all round performances with an unbeaten 52 runs and a match bag of 9 for 23 (6 /8 and 3/15) with four successive wickets in an over against Ananda College and 52 runs and match bag of 7 for 57 (6/23 & 1/34) versus Royal College, Colombo.
He commenced playing for the under 13 team in 2017 and played in 2018 and 2019. He started as an opening batsman and a wicket keeper and last year he was the vice captain. He commenced bowling off spin last year and he keeps wickets occasionally. His coaches were Ayesh de Silva and presently former St. Mary’s College, Dehiwala cricketer Neville Perera and Master in Charge of cricket is Dilan Abeywickrama and the Prefect of Games is Mrs. Nirosha Perera.
Tharaka toured Bangalore, India for an under 15 tournament last year initially with the S C Academy of Kottawa and with the S A Cricket Academy of Moratuwa. The experienced he gained from this tours paved the way for his achievement. His Principal Nadith Jayaweera is always supportive for the uplift of cricket in the school.
