Boost for Trinity Hockey

Trinity College Hockey Foundation headed by a former top player Deva Ellepola and members of the Committee are all out to give their best for the game of hockey.

This time they have got a new coach for the seniors, that is Matale Zahira College’s M.J.M. Rifas who was the Sri Lanka under 21 head coach for the AHF tournament once and he also coached in Matale, Navy, Army and clubs. The other coach is veteran old Sylvestrian .M. Ashrof who has given his best for the game as junior coach for many years, He too is a top coach who has coached several schools in Kandy and also Navy and Sri Lanka girls teams.

Trinity College has been giving a big hand for the game of hockey and has produced many top class players who made Kandy and the country proud by playing good hockey and record has been a fair one right from start under the care of S.D. Elhart, Then from 1965 for many years Paul Jayaraj who with patience and foresight from the time he took over from S.D. Elhart in 1958 built up the game. At Trinity another contributory factor is the decision taken in 1965 to insist that boys make a choice between rugger and hockey both of which were played in the second term. This step had been taken because in the attempt to play both many players did not do themselves justice in either game.

The first Lion winners, that was in1950 were S.S. Bambaradeniya and S.A.Bertie Dias. This time, still the Trinitians are yet get into serious training due to corona virus, and are sure to start practices and comeback to the game, like in the past. Hockey is one of the main sports at Trinity like Rugby and cricket. The school and the hockey foundation give a big support for this stick game.
