Sri Lanka - India savour mixed fortunes at Roll Ball

Sri Lanka and India won two matches each out of four events in the Roll Ball International Tournament 2020 which was worked off recently at the M.D.Gunasena International College Indor Stadium, Mihindu Mawatha, Colombo 11.

The tournament was organised by the Roll Ball Federation of Sri Lanka (RBFSL) in association with the International Roll Ball Federation (IRBF). This is the second consecutive year this tournament was held in Sri Lanka.

There were 48 players participated in four age category matches representing several Schools and Clubs in six indian states, namely Tamil Nadu, Karnatake, Kerala, Telengana, Uttar Predesh and Madya Pradesh.

Sri Lanka too fielded 48 players from six administrative districts namely, Colombo, Anuradhapura, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Vaunia and Jaffna to represent National teams.

National Roll Ball coach Balasinghem Thavendran has served as Jurer and Messers while Sunil Thomas and Sathis Thomas of Kerala were the IRBF referies.

India won under-14 boys' and over-17 men's titles while Sri Lanka won the under 17 boys' and Over 17 girls' titles. The tournament was coordinated by Nevil Birendra of RBFSL and Somasundara Saji of IRBF.

Dr.Nandadasa Narayana, Chairman Flexport and Flexcied was the chief gest and Dr.Hemasiri Kuruppu, Media and Community Consultant of the World Bank funded Climate Resilience Improvement Project of the University of Colombo awarded the medals and certificates.

Under 14 Boys - India beat Sri Lanka 10-3 (Best Player - Indian national Captain Abel Mathew)

Under 17 Boys - Sri Lanka beat India 11-10 (Best Player - D.M.S.Bandara of Sri Lanka)

Over 17 Girls - Sri Lanka beat India 9-1 (Best player - H.M.C.M. Herath of Sri Lanka)

Over 17 Boys - India beat Sri Lanka 5-2 (Best player - A. Abhmaniyu of India)
