Roshan Mahanama, an ex-match referee of ICC’s elite umpires panel, became the country’s first retired sportsman to self-quarantine, however, only as a precautionary move, though, he is uninfected.
This was after, Mahanama, a member of Sri Lanka’s 1996 World Cup winning squad, which anniversary eclipsed with the coronavirus surge this week, had returned home after his match referee duties were hit midway by the coronavirus crisis, worldwide.

The 53-year-old took to his personal Facebook profile announcing, “As soon as the PSL was called off, I left Lahore on the UL flight & I arrived safely in Colombo, a little while ago. I will isolate myself and self-quarantine at home for the next few days.”
“Please stay indoors and take all the precautionary measures. Stay safe!!!” he urged all. On the other hand, English cricketer, Alex Hales, who was also involved in the tournament, became in what appears to be the first cricketer to be infected with the killer virus.
This was subsequent to the symptoms of the life threatening disease and went into self-isolation mode, since Sunday morning.
