Mount Lavinia Hotel wins TTSC carrom title

Men’s Team championship winner, Mt. Lavinia Hotel receiving the trophy from President /TTSC, Bonita Odayar.

Mount Lavinia Hotel ‘A’ regained the Travel Trade Sports Club Carrom Men’s Team Championship 2020 title by dethroning the defender, Turyaa Resort, Kalutara, at the seventh edition, concluded at the Galadari Hotel ‘Bougainvillea’ PDR recently.

20 teams participated in the Men’s Championships consisting three singles and two doubles on a best of three basis.

Mt. Lavinia Hotel ‘A’ (the 2019 runner-up) on their way to the final beat Classic Travel (3/0) Kingsbury Hotel (3/1) and Cinnamon Lake Side ‘B’ (3/1).

Turyaa Resort, Kalutara reached the final by beating Cinnamon Lake Side ‘A’(3/1), W/O from Cinnamon Grand ‘B’ and Galadari Hotel ‘A’ (3/1).

In a tense final, Mt. Lavinia Hotel edged out Turyaa Resort, Kalutara, 3/2.

Out of the three singles, Mt. Lavinia Hotel lost two, but managed to pull back one through their star player, D.T. Pushpakumara (25/4).

Mt. Lavinia Hotel trailing, 1-2, the final went to the deciding two doubles.

Priyankara Peiris with Malinda Kumara won the first double, 11/5. D.T. Pushpakumara paired with K.R.C. Fonseka to win the second double and clinched the title (25/4). In the Women’s open Championship contested by 17 players, Buddhini Dias from Colombus Tours, retained the singles title, by beating Wasanthi Chathurani de Silva from Turyaa Resort, Kalutara (25/0) in a repeat final of last year. In the play off for the third place, between the two losing semifinalists, Nirmali Satharasinghe from Galadari Hotel beat H.S. Hansamali from Kingsbury Hotel (9/8).

In the Women’s open doubles, defender, Buddhini Dias from Colombus Tours with her new partner Anushka Ramkishore from Hemas Aviasion beat last year’s rivals from Galadari Hotel, Nirmali Satharasinghe and Uwani Surasinghe (25/1).

Kingsbury Hotel pair W.S. Fernando and M.P. Subramanium was awarded the third place. Awards were given away by Galadari Hotel, Director F&B, Thushantha Kariyawasam and Manager F&B, Harsha Guruge along with President/TTSC, Bonita Odayar and VP/TTSC Mani Sugathapala.
