Police Sports Club clinch Vantage FA Cup

Police Sports Club emerged the champions of most prestigious Vantage FA cup after twelve years defeating Saunders Sports Club in the penalty shootout by 5-4 in the final played at Race Course yesterday. Both teams scored one goal each at full time.

Both teams played very competitive football during the first half and Saunders SC missed scoring opportunity due to focusing only defensive football. In the resumption of the second half Police SC drew the first blood through Mohamed Sufaik in the 51 minutes and Saunders SC responded well and used their penalty opportunity to equalize the scores when former national player Niroshan Abeyasekara scored in the 53 rd minute.

In the penalty shootout Police SC successfully converted five penalties through Dusha Perera, Chamika Kumara, chathura Gunarathne and L.Lankashwara while Saunders scored through Indrajeewa, Udara, C.Chamara, Niresh Sundaraja.

Emerging players award won by MJR Mohamed from Police while golden glove won by Police player Mahendran Dinesh who played for Saunders later joined Police SC. Golden boot award went to Red Rose SC MM Nafir who was the top scorer for the tournament. Most valuable player award won by Sundaraja Niresh from Saunders.
