Dr. Nimal Lucas with his medals

Dr. Nimal Lucas, who captained the Ceylon table tennis team from 1966 to 1971, brought honour and glory to Sri Lanka by winning three gold medals and two silver medals in table tennis at the New Zealand Masters Games held in Dunedin, New Zealand on February 1 and 2.

Dr. Lucas won gold medals in over 75 men’s singles, over 70 men’s singles and over 70 mixed doubles, partnered by Jeanette Boswell. He won silver medals in the over 75 and over 70 men’s doubles, partnered by Lindsay Mackay. As Dr. Lucas was the sole participant from Sri Lanka, he was partnered by New Zealand players in the men’s doubles and mixed doubles.

This is the third time that Dr. Lucas has participated in the New Zealand Masters Games. Previously he participated in 2016 and 2018 winning several medals.
