Lyceum, Wattala dominate the first day

Lyceum International School – Wattala dominated the opening day of the International Schools Athletic championship which got underway at Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday.

The former champions won 10 golds, six silver and eight bronze medals with a total of 24 medals were secured by their athletes at the end of first day. Host Gateway College Colombo was placed second with 14 medals. They won three gold, six silver and five bronze medals respectively. Horizen School who take part this championship for the first time able to won the one gold medal.

Shelinda Jansen of Gateway College, Rajagiriya clinched her first Gold of

the meet in the Under 20 200m final and she clinched the win with a timing of 24.6sec.

Her teammate who won the medal at SAG Sadeepa Henderson also ran a 24.6sec in the final, ending the race with a silver. Dhanusha Dahanayake claimed Bronze with a timing of 25.5sec.

Lyceum International School, Wattala dominated the Boys Under 20 event, winning all three podium. Santhush Weerasinghe placed first with a 21.8sec which also set a new meet record of the game.

Kavindu Bandara finished second with 21.9 .Kavindu Anjana clinched third place with22.3sec.
