Colombo Football Club came up with a fine late rally to defeat Serendib SC from Mawanella by 2 goals to nil in the third game of the City Football League President’s Cup played at the City Football ground on Sunday. The first half was evenly contested with both sides having nearly five scoring opportunities but all these attempts were thwarted by the goal keepers.
After the turn around Colombo and the Mawanella team displayed good soccer with the hope of breaking the deadlock. The battle went on for 71 minutes before Colombo FC finally broke through when Dulip Suraj Pieris netted a fine pass from M. Mujib.
Two minutes later C.A.N. Ichini booted the second goal for Colombo FC to gain a stronghold on the game. The final 15 minutes saw Serendib come out with everything they had in store to attack their opponents territory but Colombo FC’s defence held firm to achieve a win.
