Ampara District wins EP chess silver medal

Players of the silver medal winning Ampara district chess team with their coach and Sports Officer M.H.M.Aswath.

Ampara District Chess team won the silver medal at the recently concluded Eastern Provincial level Chess championship worked off in Batticaloa.

The finals were held at the Batticaloa Central College. Batticaloa District chess team beat Ampara District chess team in the final to emerge men’s champions while Batticaloa district chess team clinched the women’s title beating Trincomalee district chess team.The chess tournament was organized by Eastern Province Sports Department Director N.M.Nowfees and was held as part of the Eastern Province Sports Festival-2020.

Champion and runner-up chess teams from Ampara, Batticaloa and Trincomalee Districts in the Eastern Province took part in this competition.

Ampara district chess team is coached by Addalaichenai Divisional Secretariat Sports Officer M.H.M.Aswath.

Eastern Province Sports Department Senior District Sports Officer A.H.Wimalasena, Coach A.W.M.Basith and sports officers were all present.

Result of final:

Men’s Division

01.Champion – Batticaloa district team, 02.Runner-up – Ampara district team.

Women’s Division

01.Champion – Batticaloa district team, 02.Runner-up – Trincomalee district team.
