Lankan veteran athletes excel in Malaysia

The Sri Lanka Veterans Athletic team ended up fourth at the 21st Asian Masters Games held in Kuching Stadium, Malaysia by bagging 146 medals India emerged champions, Japan was placed second and China third.

One thousand five hundred competitors from 29 countries took part in the games including 300 from Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka’s Sriyani Weerasinghe set up a new meet record in the over 60 age group in the hammer throw event while Munasinghe set up a new record in the over 40 100m event. Sri Lanka won 38 golds, 59 silvers and 49 bronze medals.
