Two records set on rain-curtailed day

Two new meet records were established on the opening day of the 50th Sir John Tarbat Junior Championships held at the Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday.

Records came in the boys category when A.K.D.Silva of Hegalle MV in the Under 15 High Jump event when he cleared 1.86m to secured first place. Ananda Prasad of St Peters College, Colombo (1.76m) came second while E.S. Denetha of Bodagama MV of Thalamnwila (1.75m) was placed third.

The second record was registered by Ivano White of St Joseph's College, Colombo in the discus throw marking a distance of 40.14 metres. S.Sugisthan of Hartley College, Jaffna (39.80m) came second and Aloka Bandara of Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala (32.88m) bagged third place.

Only nine events were concluded because of rain.
