WSL Qualifying Series continues at Arugam Bay

Local surfers preparing for competition

The 2019 So Sri Lanka Pro World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS) 3000 event organised by the Sri Lanka Surfing Federation of Sri Lanka together with the Ministry of Sports and National Olympic Committee commenced yesterday morning at Arugam Bay in the presence of a large gathering of Surfing fans from all over the world.

Amapara District Secretary D. M. L. Banadaranayake along with the Chairman, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Kishu Gomas and Director General Eastern Province Tourism Promotion Bureau A. S. Fayis, LSC Chairman P. Thilak Weerasinghe, Sri Lanka Surfing Federation President Hiran Ukwatte were present at the ceremonial inauguration.

Altogether 22 local surfers competed in the initial stage where out of 10 qualifiers were from the Argam Bay Surfing Association. In yesterday’s preliminary round event 32 surfers including 16 local wild card entries and 16 foreign competitors competed and 16 were selected for the next stage.
