St Peter’s College, Walala A Ratnayake MMV champs at All island Relay Carnival

St. Peter’s College and Walala A. Ratnayake MMV bagged the overall championship titles at this years’ All Island Relay Carnival concluded after three days at the Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday.

The much-celebrated Schools’ Relay Carnival was previously all set to be held at the Welagedara International Stadium in Kurunegala, but with the unpredictable weather situation, the schools’ officials decided to move it to the synthetic tracks of Sugathadasa Stadium.

Thirty-four new meet records were set up - 17 came from the Boys and 17 from the Girls.

St. Peter’s College rewrote the records in the Boys U18 4x100m, 4x200m, 4x400m and the Medley relay. They also emerged runners-up in the Boys U20 4x800m relay.

Walala A. Ratnayake Central MMV grabbed records in the Girls U16 4x100m, 4x200m, 4x400m as well as the Medley. In the Girls U18 age group they renewed the records in the 4x400m and the 4x800m relays.

In the senior Under 20 category, Walala A. Ratnayake managed to set a record in the 4x400m relay.

The overall Mixed School title went to Walala A. Ratnayake Vidyalaya with 180 points.

Dharmapala Vidyalaya finished in second place with 55 points and Sir John Kothalawala College third.

St. Peter’s College won the Overall Boys title with 82 points with Walala Central second with 55 points and St. Benedict’s College third with 43 points.

With 125 points, the Girls team of Walala A. Ratnayake won the overall title beating Holy Cross College Gampaha (79) and Dharmapala Vidyalaya (43) who finished third.
