St Peter’s and A. Rathnayaka CC, Walala emerge overall champions

Overall girls champion Walala A Rathnayake College.

St Peter’s College, Colombo and A. Rathnayaka CC, Walala sealed the Boy's and Girl's overall championship at the 21st edition of the Sir John Tarbat Senior Athletics Championship 2019 concluded at the Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday.

St Peter’s collected 171 points to win the title for second consecutive year while former champions St Benedict’s College, Colombo finished second with 95 points. Walala collected a staggering 304 points, while Holy Cross College, Gampaha were runners-up with 100 points.

Chamod Yodasinghe of St. Mary’s College Kegalle, who won the long jump as well as the 100m events, was adjudged the best male athlete for his long jump performance of 7.43m. Shelinda Jansen, the sprinter from Gateway International School, Rajagiriya, was adjudged the best female athlete for her performance in the 200m clocking 24.69 seconds. Gateway sprinter Sadeepa Henderson performed well in the Junior National championship a week ago, winning the 100m, 200m and long jump events. She also won the champion’s award for field events.

A total of 15 new meet records were set during the three-day championship.

*Outstation Champions (Girls) – Holy Cross College, Gampaha

* Outstation Champions (Boys) – A. Rathnayaka CC, Walala
