St. Joseph Vaz under 15 joint champions

St. Joseph Vaz College Wennappuwa who were the Joint Champions of All Island Under 15 Division one Cricket Tournament – 2019 conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association for the Singer Trophy posed for a photograph just after the finals at the Thurstan College Grounds Colombo. St. Joseph Vaz College Wennappuwa emerged joint champions with St. Anthony’s College Kandy in the All Island Under 15 division one cricket tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association for the Singer Trophy.

Vazians who were unbeaten throughout the tournament were captained by Menusha Perera and his deputy was Nethmal de Soysa and their coach is Nishantha Sampath and the Teacher-in-Charge of Cricket is Mrs Sureka Dilhani Perera and Prefect of Games is Deputy Principal Gemunu Kumara and the help and guidance given from the Principal Rev. Fr. Priyanjeeva Gunaratne is praise worthy.

Vazians qualified for the under 15 division one in 1990 when they clinched the division two title under Tusitha Thisera in 1989 and their opening bowler was the Present Principal Rev. Fr. Priyanjeeva Gunaratne. It took 30 long years for Vazians to win the division one title.

Batting first Anthonians declared at 166 for 5 with Lahiru Abeysinghe and Mohomed Aaqil scoring 63 and 40 runs respectively. The pair put on a valuable 40 runs for the third wicket. At the end of the game Vazians were 35 for 3.

St. Joseph Vaz – 35/3 in 23 overs (Avishka Perera 16 n/o, Menusha Perera 10 n/o, G I Galapitage 2/10).
