Bangladesh A toil for runs despite solid knocks by Jaharul and Mithun

Despite nineties apiece from opener Jaharul Islam and Mohammad Mithun Bangladesh ‘A’ were made to work hard for runs on the opening day of the first 4-day unofficial cricket test against Sri Lanka ‘A’ at Hambantota yesterday.

Winning the toss and batting first Bangladesh A got off to a solid start with openers Jaharul and Shadman Islam putting on 90 before Sri Lanka A broke through to capture three wickets for 116.

But Mohammad Mithun joined Jaharul in a fourth wicket stand of 137 to lift Bangladesh A to a first day total of 270 for six wickets by the close.

Jaharul made a durable 90 off 210 balls (8 fours) and Mithun an assertive 92 off 120 balls (10 fours, 3 sixes).

Off-spinner Ramesh Mendis was Sri Lanka A’s best bowler ending the day with figures of 2 for 43. The match continues today.
