Bangladesh seeks first title, meet defending champs India

Bangladesh will be looking to claim their first-ever Asia Cup title when they face defending champions India in the final of under 19 Asia Cup 2019 at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium today.

Dhruv Chand Jurel will lead the Indian team who once again appear to be the favourites to lift the trophy for the record seventh time.

Arjuna Azad will be the key wicket for Bangladesh, as he is among the top three run-getters in the tournament. Arjuna, who has scored over 200 runs so far, has looked a completely different batsman from the rest. He has so far won two man of the match awards in three games.

India’s success has been their top-order which has provided them with the bulk of the runs.

India’s bowling has kept most batting line-ups quiet in the tournament, and they will pose a big threat to Bangladesh, particularly the top order. Bangladesh will rely heavily on opener Mahmudul Joy, who is expected to play the anchor role batting throughout the innings.

Joy’s last-over two sixes and three fours in what was the 47th of Bangladesh’s innings in the final group game on Tuesday propelled them into the semi-finals by disposing Sri Lanka. They entered the final when their semi-final match was washed out by rain against Afghanistan but qualified with the highest number of points in the group stage.

Bangladesh’s fortunes in the tournament will largely depend on the performances of Shoriful Islam only four inches shorter than Joel Garner and bowls at an impressive pace. His pace has proved to be too much for some teams and if he takes early wickets India will have a fight on their hands.
