Sivanathan Anojan wins gold medal

Sivanathan Anojan (20) of Hindu College Batticaloa won the gold medal in the 74 k.g categories at the National wrestling competition and brought fame to his school and district. S.Abinath of Kallady Uppodai Sando Sangarathas Sports Club in the 92 k.g categories won the bronze medal.

The National Sports festival conducted by the Ministry of Sports on the 17th and 18th August at the Sports Ministry Grounds indoor stadium for the schools and clubs were in both these categories competitors from the Eastern Province took part.

The coach for these wrestlers was the physical training instructor P. Thiruchelvam of Hindu College, Batticaloa. When the medalists visited the Batticaloa Mayor Thiagaraja Saravanapavan congratulated them.

When it was pointed out that there was no proper place in Batticaloa town for the training of wrestlers the Mayor promised to look into it.
