Hasali meets Heshani in U-14 girls singles final

Hasali Gajaba of Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo and Heshani Imanga of Gateway College, Negombo will battle for supremacy in the under-14 girls' singles final of the ongoing 104th National Tennis Championship at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) hard courts today.

Hasali on her way to the final beat Dewmini Warnasuriya 6/3, 6/2 in the semi-finals and had the better of Dinethya Dharmaratne 6/3, 6/3 in the quarters.

Heshani convincingly defeated Saajida Razick 6/1, 6/0 in the semi-finals and went on to beat Saneshi Willoraarachchi 6/1, 6/1 in the quarterfinals.

The boys' under-12 singles event saw Tharuk Marasinghe of Royal College, Colombo and Lisal Goonathilake of S. Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia entering the final after easy semi-final wins.

Tharuk had no trouble in beating Danushka Dias 6/2, 6/2 in his semi-final match and edged out A. Ganegoda 6/1, 6/1 in the quarters. Lisal emerged victorious over Methwan Wijemanne 6/2, 6/3 in the semi-final and defeated Louis Knese 7/5, 6/2 in the quarterfinals.

The tournament was hindered by bad weather and some of the matches were postponed.

The under-16 girls singles second semi-final between Tharani Alexendra of Visakha Vidyalaya and Tania Doloswala of Gateway College, Colombo was abandoned yesterday due to rain and will be played today at the SLTA courts. Oshini Herath has already qualified for the U-16 singles final and will meet either Tharani or Tania in the final.
