Bandara’s fighting 85 blunts Nayeems’ seven-for

Ashen Bandara hit a resolute 85 off 256 balls to deny Bangladesh Emerging a win and ensure a draw for Sri Lanka Emerging in their first four-day unofficial test which ended in a draw at Khulna in Bangladesh yesterday.

Sri Lanka Emerging resuming from their overnight score of 190-6 in reply to Bangladesh’s first innings of 360 were dismissed for 244 with Bandara defending stoutly to be last out having eight fours in his 373 minutes stay at the wicket. Off-spinner Nayeem Hasan was Bangladesh’s chief wicket-taker claiming seven for 93.

Bangladesh in their second innings made 102-4 with off-spinner Nishan Peiris taking three wickets for 43. The second and final unofficial test starts at Cox’s Bazar on September 3.
