The second round confrontation between Havelock Sports Club and Kandy Spots Club in the Dialog ‘A’ Division league rugby tournament at Havelock Park should turn out to be a thriller today.
A mammoth crowd is expected at 4:00 pm to witness this grand game in the on going League Rugby Tournament.
Today’s match should turn out to be a battle between Havies power-packed forwards and Kandy’s speedy three quarters.
Havelock’s forwards especially seasoned campaigner cum Sri Lanka national player Dushmantha Priyadarshana who is an excellent player in the loose have given a terrific display throughout the season thus far hence should maintain their supremacy.
In the set scrums Kandy’s hooker Uchitha Jayasuriya will have the edge against Havies hooker Azmeer Fajudeen while Shehan Pathirana will have the edge in the line outs over Havelocks solitary jumper Sithum Peiris.
Kandy Sports Club have a fine set of speedy three quarters but their halves combination have to hit it off smoothly as they are playing together for a long time.
Also they should punch holes in the Havies defence and to do that their full back Thilina Wijesinghe should join the line to form the overlap.
The biggest threat to the Park club will be posed by centre Danushka Ranjan and winger Anurudda Wilwara with his power-packed runs down the flank.
The Havies lads have to make the maximum use of the ‘good ball’ that comes their way through their halves combination of Mithun Hapugoda and captain Niroshan Fernando must not delay their passes for their two hard running wingers in strongly built SaNdun Herath and Chamara Dabare to hit the gaps without being ‘nailed’ by their opposite numbers.
Meanwhile Kandy Sports Club should also come up with a similar performance like they did in their last game played against CR & FC as they also have two strong runners in winger Anurudda Wilwara on the open side wing while they will also have the services of Lavanga Perera or Vishvamithra Jayasinghe who has impressed with their sizzling runs in addition to an attacking full back in Thilina Wijesinghe.
Kandy beat Havelocks in the first round game at Nittawala in Kandy, hence another thriller is on the cards today.
