Ashan records fastest time

Fastest rider Dushna Mudalige and fastest driver Ashan Silva with their trophies

Champion Driver Ashan Silva recorded the fastest time at the Eliyakanda Hill Climb clocking a time of 32.61 seconds for the 765 metre Climb while Dushan Mudalige became the Best Rider clocking 35.66 seconds at the Southern Motor Sports Club organized event which came to an end on Sunday in a highly successful manner. Ashan as usual drove his Mitsubishi IX in grand style in the SL-GT up to 3500cc class to achieve this victory but failed to erase the existing record of Dilan Seneviratne’s 32.422 seconds set up last year.

The highlight of the day was the 12 year old Kesara Godage the rider turned driver’s performance who went on to reach the podium twice. Kesarsa is the rider who won the Super Cross under 16 Super Championship last two years.

He rode magnificently to reach the podium on two occasions. First he was placed second in the Nissan March 1000cc class and later went on to take the second spot going ahead of his father Dhammka Godage In the Nissan March 1300cc category.

Ashan Silva after winning the Super car event only running one clocked the Best time said during practices he had to face technical problems and also humidity too was not help him to go for the record. If things go well I will see that I see a new record set next time on this track. He thanked the Southern Motor Sports Club for conducting this event annually without a break for over 20 years.

Nineteen year old Dushan Mudalige who took to the sport only last year in the 250cc Category proved that he is a rider who is capable of becoming a Champion in the future who could reach international standard in the near future specially in Super Cross events.

On Sunday he had two good wins with top timings which paved the way for him to carry away the Best Rider’s Trophy.

The oldest driver to compete in Sunday’s Hill Climb was Casim Wahab who at the age of 75 drove in the SL T&J Jeeps Open event, Super Cars event and the T&J up to 5000cc class his son Ishraq Wahab too was seen in action along with his father in all three events.
