All hail the much heralded arrival of 2019...carving, itself a blazing pathway and screaming for all glory.
Understand the need, and requisites for the table.
Sri Rugby has the unenviable task and responsibility of making us Asia’s no. 1.
As the sun rises today illuminating the spectacular skills to stamp our natural class ...but woefully short of the specifics and held at bay by Hong
Kong, Korea, Japan and Taipei.
Asia rugby is the future and beyond.
Not rocket science to see the pathway and vital components...it’s all too obvious but remains our greatest challenge at home and aside wide.
We must strategically blue print our plans… and set our target.
Asia wide...professional environment. Working directly on beating Japan at 7s and 15s, testing their amazing depth and core ...as our priority.
Between Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Taipei and Philippines...here lies our frontline ... a tested and hugely competitive annual calendar that is Asian graduation on that climb to world rugby.
Doubts about the Asian step up on planet rugby ... will be dismissed with customary ease as Japan host the 2019 IRB RWC spectacular celebrations...perhaps the grandest of them all and set to relaunch Japan as a mighty rugby capitol of the world.
On the ground ...Dialog 2nd round grabs the players for a harsh skill and survival of the fittest ...each weekend as upfront and in your face as the last.
Intrigued by the contenders and the prospect of a few rough diamonds.
Wonderful crop of emerging warriors to pick from too...Dilshan, Naveen, Chetiya, Lee, Dange, Amarasinghe, are rep names that have won their Sri junior caps. Hopefully their clubs debut simply an academic fact, on the way to bigger and better.
Consequently necessary that our 15s format be competitively scrutinised and requisites to make us stronger Asians.
No fussing about our 7s…which is looking pretty sharp and well on our way to real island style.
The Fijian, Samoan, Tongan very much way forward for our unique brand.
We need to breed rugby basketball types....who are specialists.
The multiplayer Priyantha Ekanayake with a variety of skills, and Duminda de Silva are resilient examples for a single sport generation.
Sport is about all-rounders.
Long may it thrive.
Stand out performance stats so far are dominated by CR 10 Tharindu Ratwatte...sharp finisher and efficient kicking giving him the edge.
Close but different is CH 10 Samuel Maduwantha...who continues to thrive on his accuracy...Sam has singularly managed to keep some consistency for the Maitland from the start.
Havelocks have the educated boot and luxury of Riza Mubarak, adding to coach Martis’ list of weapons.
Havies need to believe more and finish stronger in round 2...win the traditional big games ...CR, CH, and Kandy...and focus on the title race.
The writings on the park wall?
Defending champions with newish coach ...run out with heaps of confidence...so no fears on that front. Injuries could be a concern...but the Kandy bench is equal to most and quite intimidating.
Buwaneka Udangamuwa, Lema Pathirana and Kalhara simply irresistible...both in attack and defence. Remarkable form and efficiently done per game.
In sport and in life we accept realities and learn to inevitably accept the facts.
Taking each day we learn to adapt, to grow and appreciate.
For our young brother, may the light be bright and the turf lie gently on your side.
Blessings KS...true island son, strength and prayers for his family.
The season ignites again and it’s the mind that will separate the real warriors in the skirmish.
The time is upon us... the fans demand satisfaction and the players are fuelled on 180% effort ...it’s all or nothing, with marginal allowance for error.
All told ...less error and passion will be the sacrosanct dictates.
Bula, bula Sri Island rugby.
