Sri Lanka Ports Authority overcame strong Ceylon Electricity Board by three sets to nil (25-21, 25-20, 25-18) to win the Munchee National Volleyball Championship in the final played at the National Youth Services Council courts yesterday.
The first set saw both teams fighting hard to take the upper hand but the SLPA spikers got the lead at the halfway mark. Though Port men were in front Power men too fought gallantly until the end but lost the set 25-21.
The second set saw the Port men get off to a strong start but CEB however came up with fine performance after the halfway mark to equalize 15-all. From there onwards it was a ding dong battle with both teams trying their best to take control of the set. At one stage CEB went ahead with the score at 17-15 and had a lead of six points. SLPA however turned the tide in their favour by collecting six consecutive points to overtake CEB and went on to win the set 25-20. This gave them a strong 2-0 lead.
The final set saw a complete dominance by SLPA from the outset as the Port resistance deteriorated and they won quite comfortably 25-18 to make a clean sweep of the final and lay their hands on the Munchee trophy.
