The two cricketing giant in the North Western Province, St Anne’s college and Maliyadeva college will vie for honours in their 35th annual Battle of the Rocks cricket encounter for the Dialog challenge trophy at the picturesque Welagedara Stadium, Kurunegala on April..6...and ...7.... The 23rd annual limitted over match between the two schools will be played on the following day (April .8..) at the same venue.
St. Anne’s celebrate their 150th anniversary while Maliyadeva celebrate its 130th anniversary this year. Up to now out of 34 encounters Maliyadeva has won two matches while Annites are yet to savour victory. The rest of the matches ended in draws.
In the annual limited over match series, Maliyadeva has a slight edge over Annites, winning twelve matches while Annites have won the one day encounter 11 times.
Maliyadeva has played 15 matches so far this season and they have recorded one outright win and three 1st innings wins. Dulaj Ranathunga 5th year player leads Maliyadeva College team.
St. Anne’s College played Eleven (11) matches and recorded three outright wins and four 1st innings. wins Fifth-year coloursman Randeer Ranasinghe who has already scored 650 runs in this season leads St. Anne’s side.
Annites got four centurions in captain Randeer Ranasinghe (115 Vs Richmond, Galle), Dineth Randima (114 Cs St. Anthony’s, Wattala) Wanitha Wanninayaka (101 Vs Kingswood, Kandy) and Dhananjaya Bandara (101 Vs Kingswood, Kandy) in their side. Annites’ Pasindu Tennakoon captured a 7-wicket haul against Kalutara Vidyalaya while their bowling department also included three bowlers with five-wicket hauls (Randeer Ranasinghe, Wanitha Wanninayaka, Pubudu Ganegama).
