Richmond-Mahinda evenly poised

Pasan Pethangoda leading the team off the field

The outcome of the 113th lovers quarrel was unpredictable as either side may take advantage and force a win when play resumes at the picturesque Galle International stadium today.

Richmond electing to bat first were unable to keep their wickets in tact with the GICS producing turn and bounce to help Mahinda’s left arm leg spin duo Pasan Pethangoda and Navod Paranawithana to capture eight wickets between them to restrict the strong Richmondites to 170 runs at tea on the first day. Richmond came back strongly to defend their low score and had Mahinda on 70/3 at stumps on day one.

Richmond elected to bat first and Duveen Kalansooriya topped the score card with 42 runs while skipper Dhanjaya Lakshan chipped in with 33 while Pasan and Navod were the most successful bowlers.

Navod Paranavithana and Hansika Welikala gave Mahinda a solid start with a 46 run partnership for the first wicket but Dilum Sudeera graabbed two wickets in an over to see the M ahindians on 70/3 at stumps on day one.. The on field umpires are Nilan de Silva and Rohitha Kottachchi while
