Vidyartha skipper Pulina Gunatilake hit an unbeaten century to help his team reach 229 all out on the first day of the 60th Battle of the Babes cricket encounter against St Sylvester’s College played at the Pallekele Cricket Stadium yesterday.
St. Sylvester’s skipper Avindu Hearth after winning the toss invited Vidyartha to bat first and at lunch they were 85 for 3.
Vidyaratha batsmen after lunch put up a splendid performance to take the score to 205 for 5 at tea, but lost the remaining five wickets for 24 runs in the final session.
The highlight of the Vidyartha innings was the unbeaten century made by Gunatilake who scored 102 not out off 180 balls with five fours. He made some excellent strokes round the wicket, and entertained the present and old boys present.
Sylvestrians coming to bat started well and at close were 53 for 1 with Kasun Ediritilakke showing good form with an unbeaten 36. The match continues today.
