Moratuwa Methodist High School First Eleven Cricket Pool 2017/2018:
The sixth annual big match 'The Battle of Friendship' between Methodist High School, Puwakaramba, Moratuwa and Shashtrananda Vidyalaya, Dehiwala will be worked off on March 23 and 24 at De Soysa Stadium, Moratuwa. It will be followed by the limited over Match on March 25 at the same venue. This game was commenced in 2013 and it was the brain child of the then Principals Deepal Mendis of Methodist High School and P. D. D. S. Pathirana of Shasthrananda. The inaugural match was captained by Ishara Omalka Fernando of Methodist High School and W. A. Vipula Nishantha of Shathrananda. This year Methodians will be captained by Avishka Sandaruwan and his deputy will be Chamathka Sandagomi. Shasthrananda will be captined by Divan Madushnaka and his deputy is Isuru Chamara Bandaranayake. This year the hosts are Methodist High School. Methodist High School has a long cricket history and the sport was introduced by former Principal Annesley J. de Mel in 1936. Since then they had first eleven, second eleven, under 16, 14 and 12 teams. The school has produced cricketers who went on to represent Sri Lanka in many formats. During the fifties they played few big matches with Moratu Vidyalaya.
With the taking over of the school to the government in 1962 it was shifted to the present venue. In 1999 former principal Hemachandra Perera re-started cricket and it is going on to date without any hindrance. This year Methodians are coached by Anurudda and his assistant will be Shamith Mendis while Shasthrananda will be coached by Suranga Priyadarshana Fernando. The both Principals Lilanthi Perera and B. A. S. Abewardene are expecting three days of good cricket.
