
The second year first eleven player, right hand batsman, wicket keeper and occasional right arm leg spinner Gunasekera Senevirathnage Don Sahan Kosala performed well during the last two cricket seasons for De Mazenod College, Kandana.
His first school was Gonsalves Maha Vidyalaya, Pamunugama, Ja-ela and in his first year in the under 13 cricket tournament under the guidance of Mr. Udara he passed the 300 run mark in four innings with 100 runs against St. Jude College, Kurana and another half century. In the following year when he was in the under 15 his school could not field under 13 and 15 teams and they played a few friendly matches.
In the under 17 tournament in his first year he scored 370 runs with two fifties and in the following year too he passed the 300 run mark and as an under 17 player playing for the first eleven team he scored 439 runs with a century against St. Mary’s College, Chilaw and his Principal was Rev. Fr. Ananda Vithana.
In his second year in the under 17 he joined De Mazenod College, Kandana and in 2018 he scored 350 runs with three fifties. He was selected to the first eleven team in 2019/20 season and he scored 698 runs with two centuries against formidable Royal College, Colombo an unbeaten 104 runs at Royal; ground and 106 runs versus St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa and his coach is Prasanna Vishwanath and the Master in Charge is Malith Keerthi and the Rector is Rev. Bro. Chanaka.
In addition to cricket he was a fine athlete at Gonsalves Vidyalaya and he participated at the Athletics Meet of the school annual sports meets and won the under 13 and 15 age groups and his events were 100, 200 metres and long jump. He represented his school in the John Tarbet Athletic Meet and he reached the qualifying time in 100 metres and long jump event too.
