
Sri Lanka Kabaddi players are expected to take part at the International events once again and Sri Lanka Kabaddi Federation have already made plans to appoint National coaches for these International events.
According to the President of the Kabaddi Federation Anura Pathirana the interviews to select the new National coaches will be held on 6th September from 10am to 4pm at the Sports Ministry. Actually international exposure is more important for the National Kabaddi players and Federation has already made plans to give maximum exposure to the players.
At the last South Asian Games held in Nepal Sri Lanka men’s team really performed well to clinch the silver medal and at the final they lost to India. Kabaddi women’s team also had to be satisfied with the bronze medal. But both mens and women’s team failed to get a single medal at the last Asian Games in Jakarta. However several allegations were made against the Sri Lankan Kabbadi coaches at the last Asian Games regarding selections of the teams. In addition the Federation also obtained the services of Indian coach to train the National teams for the Asian Games but this Indian coach was also not included for the Asian Games.
The forthcoming Asian Beach Games, Asian and South Asian Sports Festival, Asian Circle Kabaddi Championship, and Asian Junior Kabaddi Championship are the key International events on the calendar and Kabaddi Federation will appoint separate coaches for these events from the interviews. The coaches who are attached to the district Kabaddi Associations and Kabaddi Sports Clubs are eligible to take part at the interview for the National coaches.
Meanwhile Kabaddi Federation is going to register new ‘D’ Grade coaches and conduct the work shop on 6th September. In addition registered coaches from 2018 to 2020 are going to be ranked on this day.
The President of the Kabaddi Federation Anura Pathirana and his team are expected to do all this activities with transparency to develop the game.
