Kandy Club AGM today

Kandy Club will hold their 144th AGM today at the club house. This club founded by White planters has a long history and is one of the oldest clubs in the country. The club was opened in 1878 for the exclusive use by the British. The nature of the club changed when an elite class of Sri Lankans (then Ceylonese) were permitted to join the club and in 1950 the club was opened to the Sri Lankans.

Thanks to people like Late Stanley Ratwatte, Chandra Wijenayake, Gordon Ratwatte, locals got a chance to get into membership. Later Dr. S. Nadasen, Roy de Silva, Rohan Wijenayake, Iqbal Omar-to name a few. And there were some committee members who gave a big hand for the club to come out with the boundary wall in front of the club and the side wall and new rooms.

At the AGM according to news once again D.Suwarnasinghe will be elected as the president for the fourth time, with A. Vidangamage, Palitha Pethiyagoda and L.B.M. Hearth as vice president, secretary and treasurer .

Kandy Sports Club back in training

Kandy Sports Club has started rugby training, like jogging, exercising and weight training under the guidance of Fazil Marija and Buddhika Thalagampola, there are over thirty rugger players in this training programme.

Kandy SC will once again look forward to win the sevens, league and the knockou tournaments; last they won under Nigel Ratwatte in 2020.

Nine Kandy school cricketers in under 19 squad

Nine Kandyschool products are in the under 19 cricket squad, which is in preparation for the under 19 World Cup. The twenty six member squad is packed with some top class cricketers. The Kandy school products are from Trinity College, St. Anthony’s College and St. Sylvester’s College. They are Pawan Pathiraja, Nahesha Pathirana Vihahavith Ehelepola, Randu Somarthne (Trinity), Traveen Mathews, Chamindu Wickremasinghe, Lairu Abeyasinghe, Anjela Bandara ( StAnthony’s) and , Maleesha Silva (St Sylvester’s)

KDHA Hockey

All arrangements have been finalized by theKandy District Hockey Association to come out with their inter club men’s and women’s eleven a side, seven a side and five side tournaments.

The problem they are having is no grounds for tournaments. They are hoping to play the tournament out of Kandy, but it is going to be a problem, as clubs will need a big sum of money to travel and for the ground bookings.
