The Sports Ministry has decided to allocate a sum of Rs. 12m to the Sri Lanka Rifle Shooting Federation (SLRSF).

This was decided after the National Sports Council (NSC) identified rifle shooting as a sport, in which Sri Lanka could win in the international arena.

In fact, Tehani Egodawela, the 35-year-old shooter from Sri Lanka Navy has already qualified for the Tokyo Olympics. The Sports Ministry has allocated these funds for the benefit of the shooters and to improve their facilities. The SLRSF and the Department of Sports Development of the Sports Ministry signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard recently.

The MoU signing took place between Amal Edirisooriya, Director General (DG), Ministry of Sports and President SLRSA Shiran Peiris in the presence of Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa at the newly built shooting centre at Kohuwala. (D.R)
