No international VB events for SL this year - SLVF

Four domestic tournaments have been postponed due to the pandemic

The National Volleyball Team is unlikely to participate in any international tournament this year due to the pandemic, according to a senior official of the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation (SLVF).

“All national pool practices for both indoor volleyball and beach volleyball have been temporarily halted by the SLVF,” the official told the Daily News yesterday.

“Four major domestic tournaments have also been postponed due to the pandemic situation,” he explained.

The Asian Men’s Volleyball Championships were scheduled to be held this year in Japan while the Women’s Asian Championships were scheduled to be held in China.

“Without the proper preparation Sri Lanka’s participation at these tournaments are very doubtful. Without good training there is no point in taking part in these tournaments,” he emphasised.

“We could not conduct any tournament since March, 2020 and Sri Lanka’s last participation at an international event was the 2019 South Asian Games,” he added.
