Liyanage settle for a draw against Aminul

National champion Ranindu Liyanage had to be content with a draw against Bangladesh FIDE Master Islam Aminul in the seventh-round of the Asian Zonal Hybrid Chess Championship, which continued yesterday.

Liyanage has obtained a total of 4.5 points out of seven games with two more rounds to be completed in this tournament.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Grandmaster, Ziaur Rahman beat Sri Lanka’s FIDE Master Susal de Silva to take the lead with 6.5 points out of seven games. Susal, who celebrated his 16th birthday yesterday, had to play a tough game with his opponent and is currently in sixth place while Liyanage is in seventh place. However, Sri Lanka’s Buddihka Amarasinghe had a bad day losing his game against International Master Fahan Rahman.

A total of 39 players from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka are participating in this event.
