Versatile cricket coach and administrator Carlton Bernardus is the Head Coach of the SSC School of Cricket Academy since 2013 and is an old boy of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo.
He is involved in cricket for well over
40 years and was guided at school by veteran coach Fairly Dalpadadu, a talented cricket coach.
As a player when he represented his alma mater, he scored twin unbeaten half-centuries in the Big Match against St. Peter’s College in 1976.
After leaving school, he represented Colts Cricket Club in the Premier League Tournament for a number of years and later he had the opportunity to Captain the Colts Cricket Team. His highest score in the Premier League was an unbeaten knock of 153 against Police SC.
Carlton was a brilliant close-in fielder who was selected as the Best Fielder of Sri Lanka Schools in 1976 and at the Single Wicket Cricket Tournament organised by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) in 1997.
He was appointed Manager of the Under-19 Western Province Cricket Team when he was in the Cricket Board. He was also the former Head of Cricket Operations in Sri Lanka and former Deputy Manager of National Games.
Later, Carlton was appointed Manager of the Bangladesh Cricket Board. He was the Sri Lanka Under-19 Coach in 1999/2000 and was awarded the Certificate of Accomplishment in December, 2007 by the Sports Management of World Wide in USA.
In the late 1990’s he served SLC as Head of Cricket Operations, Cricket Coach and Manager of the Under-15 and Under-19 age group teams.
When he was the Manager of the Western Province Under-19 Cricket Team, National players like Kumar Sangakkara, Rangana Herath and Prasanna Jayawardena were also in the team.
He also served as the Under-19 Coach at SLC. He was accredited with the Level Two coaching certificate in Australia and also with the Level Three coach cum instructor in Sri Lanka.
