19 year old Maleesha Silva, the present cricket captain of St.Sylvester’s College, Kandy is an all-round cricketer, a left hand top order batsman and a left arm leg spinner. At present he is a Grade eleven student in the commerce stream and he has been playing cricket from Under 13,15,17 and Under 19 age groups with distinction.

Maleesha played in the Under 13 team for four years from 2014 to 2016 and he has scored 87 not out against Nalanda College and scored ten half-centuries in the under 13 level and his best bowling figures was capturing 6 for 34 against Kingswood College and he has three five wickets haul. At junior level he was coached by Krishantha Gunawardena and Julian Arnolda, an old boy of the school.

In the Under 15 age group Maleesha represented the school in the year 2017 and in 2018 scoring a century (101 not out) against St.Anthony’s College, Katugastota and in addition scored five half centuries in the same tournament. His best bowling feat was claiming five wickets for 16 runs against Polonnaruwa Royal College and he scored 62 runs against St.Mary’s College, Kegalle and scored another two half centuries as an Under 17 player. His best bowling feat was claiming 3 wickets for 12 runs against St.Peter’s College, Colombo and in 2020 due to Covid epidemic the cricket season was abandoned.

Maleesha played for five years since 2017 to 2021 and scored 12 half centuries with his highest score being scoring 87 against Mahanama College, Colombo.

He best bowling being capturing 5 for 45 against St.Joseph’s College, Wennappuwa and his 1st XI coach is Roshan Jayatissa, a distinguished old boy of St.Sylvester’s who brought fame to the school as an all-round cricketer. Maleesha Silva has played School Cricket, district level cricket and provincial level Cricket and his main intention is to play for the National team.

He is thankful to his coaches, especially Roshan Jayatissa who made him come up-to this level, P.O.G., M.I.C. and the Principal of the School for the encouragement given to him.
