Nineteen year old, Sapumal Gihantha Fernando, an outstanding sportsman of Lexicon International School,Kandy did well in cricket and soccer and studies too which enabled him to join Dharmaraja College, Kandy for his higher studies and to pursue sports activities further. He was selected to the cricket pool as well as soccer pool of Dharmaraja College,

Sapumal has improved his goal-keeping in soccer tremendously and was selected to the Kandy District Football team in the year 2018. In the year 2019 he has taken another step forward when he was trained by the Head Coach, K.M.T. Konara for the Sri lanka National Soccer pool along with E.M.S.0 Ekanayake and A.M.T.K. Bandara, both from Kandy District Soccer team.

As a cricketer he has represented Lexicon College in Under 13,15, 17 and 19 as a right-hand batsman and a left-arm medium pace bowler. He has represented the Kandy Cricket and Athletic Academy in club matches for three consecutive years since 2016. His highest score was 102 against Poramadulla National School, while his best bowling performance was 8 wickets for 34 runs against Kandy Model School. His cricket coaches were Indika Fernando and Upananda Jayasundera.

His main intention is to represent Sri Lanka in both cricket and soccer while doing his higher studies and if he fulfills this Sapumal will emulate Thirana Gamage, old Kingswoodian who represented Sri Lanka in both sports disciplines In the nineties.

He is thankful to his coaches for the encouragement given to him and at present due to the epidemic prevailing in the country the practices of cricket and soccer have been curtailed.
