Oneli secures U-18 Online Chess title

Oneli Vithanawasam of Lyceum, Wattala emerged champion at the CFSL Online Under-18 Girls’ Youth Rapid Chess Championship, which concluded yesterday.

Oneli, who was sharing the lead on the previous day with four points out of four games, played exceptionally well to win the event by scoring six out of possible seven games.

Meanwhile, Esandi Newansa of Dharmasoka College who tied at 5.5 points with Nemindi Ramanayake of Bandaranayake Central College, Veyangoda and Piyumi Uthpala of JMC International School, Kalutara, had the better in the tie-breaker to win the Silver Medal.

Piyumi Amaratunga (JMC International, Kalutara), 5. Prasansa Premanath (Girls’ High School, Kandy), 6. Desandhi Gamage (Sirmavo Bandaranayake BV), 7. Dulinma Rathnayake (Viharamaha Devi BMV), 8. Chanindi Attanayake (Devi Balika Vidyalaya), 9. Jayandi Bimansa (Bandaragama Central College), 10. N. T. Indrajith (St. Joseph’s BMV, Kegalle). (D.R)
