Thirty-three-year-old M. D. M. Senaka, an Old Boy of Debarawewa Maha Vidyalaya in Hambantota is a talented powerlifter who was involved in athletics during his school days.
He started powerlifting when he joined
Sri Lanka Army and during a weightlifting session, Brigadier Ratnayake encouraged him to do training in powerlifting.
Thereafter, Senaka started powerlifting under the coaching of Athula Wijewickrema, a talented powerlifting coach of YMCA, Kandy.
That was the start of his outstanding powerlifting career and he was placed first at the meet held in 2016, lifting a total of 657kg (deadlift 240kg, squat 417 Kg) in the 105kg weight class.
In 2017, he represented his weight class of 105kg at the weightlifting contest held at Bandaragama.
In the following year he was selected to represent his country at a meet held in Indonesia in the 105kg weight class and he was placed fifth lifting a full total of 420kg (deadlift 156kg and squat 270kg).
In the same year, he participated continuously at the National Powerlifting Meet for three successive years and he was placed second in his weight class for two years and in the third year he won the contest.
Again, he participated at the Shakthi Powerlifting Meet and was placed second in his weight class of 105kg.
