Dilakshi Ravihari - netball player par excellence

Dilakshi Ravihari de Silva Dharmawardhana, who is a student of Kalutara Balika National school studying in the Advanced Level commerce section has been chosen for the 2021 National Netball Junior Pool based on her outstanding performance.

Dilakshi was born on the 16th of February 2003 as the daughter of businessman Rasika Kumara de Silva and the former National level Inter school athlete Priyanka Chandani in Aluthgama.She is the sister of Kaveesh Dilhari and Sapsitha Kalhara. From 2008 she was highly involved in swimming and athletics along with her studies at the Kalutara Balika National school, however her extraordinary talents were noticed by W.M. Yasanthi Thusharika the current netball coach of the school and sports teacher in charge who had been instrumental in developing several players upto the national level. With the blessings of the former principal of the School Mrs.K.G, Gunaratne, Dilakshi was chosen to play for the under 12 team in 2014.

She excelled from there and was the Captain of the under 15 School’s Netball team which was placed best ejghth in the All-Island level inter school Netball championship in 2015. Likewise, she was the key in winning second place in the 4x100 event,third place in the 4x400 and the national Youth Sports Festival and was placed third in the 4x100 under 16 event at the Ministry of Sports Western Province national sports festival.

She represented the school in the prestigious 26th Pesta Bala Jaring USM - Penang International netball championship-2016 organised by the Malaysia, Sains University held from the 7th to the 9th October 2016. She was placed second and third respectively in the events of 4X400 and 4x100 held at the national youth sports festival.

She was also the captain of the Under 15 Schools Team which emerged champions in the 2017 Milo trophy A - Division All Island Schools Netball Tournament and became the best player too. Further in 2018 the old Balika team she represented became the champions at district and all island level.

The team represented by Dilakshi again was placed best eighth at the All Island schools netball championship in 2019 and emerged champions at the XLV National Youth Sports Festival of Kalutara District and at the all Island championships.

The team went on to win the 46th National Sports Festival-2020 Netball tournament too. Dilakshi ,has done well in her studies and extra curricular activities apart from her extraordinary achievements in netball.
