Pallekele ready to host test matches against Bangladesh

A discussion took place at Pallekele, where the Central Province Cricket Association is handling the organizing part headed by CPCA president Sarath Ekanayake,Secretary Janaka Pathirana with officials of vital departments like Health, Police, cricket officials etc., regarding the test match arrangements between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, where the first test will be played from April 21 to 25, and the second test from April 29 to May 3 both at the Pallekele International Stadium. This will be the first time over here in Kandy a test match will be played without spectators.

A high level rugby academy

Young rugby lovers in Kandy will be benefitted by a high level rugby academy to come out in Kandy and around Central Province with top -class coaching. Some of the top rugger promoters are working together to establish a Rugby Academy providing students with the skills they need in rugby, academics and community leadership. This academy will help to succeed in rugby and life, which will be open to students in grades10-12.

Sri Chandrananda Buddhist school does well in cricket

Sri Chandranadna Buddhist school Kandy, who took up cricket in 2011 has done well in this year’s inter school cricket tournament playing in under 19 division III level II Group E, now they have qualified for the next round. They have beaten schools like Mahanama College by nine wickets, Westwood College by nine wickets, Ranabima Royal College by six wickets, Teldeniya National School by six runs and won against Thalathuoya Central College on Parabola system.Thanks to the efforts of the principal Venerable Dr. Godagama Mangala Thero,MIC Nimesh Indeewara Sumanarthne and head coach Dileep Sumnaratne. The side is led by Kaveen Ranaisnghe and his deputy is the stumper of the side Anushka Katakumbra,Rest of the players are Geeth Tharusha,Janith Wijetunga, Kavishka Kandekumbura, Anush Senavirhne, Saridu Sandima,Akila Nilwakka, Manula Nandasena, Kalana Rajapakse, Heshan Punchinilame, Eshan Dharmadasa, Chamath Ekanyake, Chinthaka Viraj, Nisalitha Lakvidu, Bathila Karunarthne.

Simithraaratchy house champs

Last Saturday, a day full of thrills and excitement took place at the Trinity College inter-house ten-a-side rugby tournament, which was a friendly tournament under closeD doors, which was won by Simithraaratchy house, followed by Garret, Oorloff, Lemaul,Central Boarding House (CBH). The player of the tournament award went to Tevin Krunanayake, and Thamuditha Dodanwatte, Most up and coming player award went to Sachitha Wamasekara.

Trinity will meet Sebs

Trinity College will play St. Sebastian’s College in the quarter final of the tier “A tournament, the match is set to be played on the 19th at Reid Avenue. This is going to be a close game and the side that bat, field and bowl well should come out as winners. Trinity College played five games in the first round and have won four and lost one with 18 points. A big hand should go to their coach Kavinda Jaysuriya for guIding the team in the correct way with the backing of their principal Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara.

St. Anthony’s meet Mahanama

On April 20 St. Anthony’s College will play Mahanama College in their quarter final game at Welagedera Stadium in Kurunagala. Both sides are equally balanced and should come out with a good game. Antonians out of their five games won three, lost one and no decision one, have qualified to the quarter-final round of Tier A tournament.

A big hand should go to their principal Rev. Fr. K.G.Henry B. Wijeratne for giving a big hand to keep the game alive despite the corona problem.

St. Sylvester’s College has got a new rugby coach, B.M.Dharmapala a experienced man in the coaching field, is sure to do his best.He started coaching with the Army and also coached schools likePrince of Wales , Maliyadewa, St. Anne’s, St. Anthony’s forward coach Air Force forwards coach , Sri Sumangala , SriLanka team supporting coach (2009 - 2010), He has followed a IRB level -two coaching course in Australia 2002, a high performance and rugby sevens level-one and level two coaching course in Malaysia
