Fifteen-year-old up and coming volleyball player Devamadde Aluthmuhandiramlage Lakshani Shehara has brought honour and fame to her school Wekada Maha Vidyalaya Yogiyana Dankotuwa.
She was born on 26th January 2006 and initially she was admitted to her village school Rathnajothi Primary and she was admitted to this school when Mrs. Jesica was the principal and her first class teacher was Mrs. Kusum.
She participated for the school Inter House Sports Meet and did 75 and 100 meters and in the same year she took part for the under ten Inter House Volleyball Tournament and caught the eye of school volleyball coach and the Prefect of Games Saman Bandara.
As Shehara showed a keenness in volleyball her parents Kapila Chandrakumara and Nilmini Vishaka encouraged their daughter to fulfill her ambition. She firstly attended for the under eleven volleyball practices and in the following year she was selected to the team and participated in the Divisional, and District tourneys where her school were the runners up of the District DSI Tournament.
They were the runners up in 2018 and in the following year too repeating the same performance at the lower level tournaments and in the District DSI Tournament they came third.
In the following year they won the lower level tournaments and were qualified for the District DSI finals.
They became the runners up and in the 2019 tournament their school was placed among the Best Eight Teams. Their principal Wasantha has been a live wire for them to achieving these targets.
