I am looking forward to representing the Peterite first XI team, says Thiloka

Former under 13 Captain and Junior Coloursman of St. Peters College who was able to take them to a final under his captaincy and brought honour to the school Thiloka de Silva, is determined to represent the Peterite 1st XI team following a successful stint with the college 2nd XI team in the inter school cricket tournament.

Thiloka first played cricket for St. Peters Under-13 team. Recalling his young days he said: “After representing and captaining the Under-13 Team and Under 15 team I went on to play for the College Under-17 and 2nd XI Teams.”

“Thereafter, I went on to play for the School 2nd XI Team in 2020. And my 1st 2nd Xi match was against Ananda College. I got 35 runs in my first 2nd Xi game.and scored over 350 runs from seven innings with one fifty and one century, with a remarkable average of 50.50. I scored 90 against Prince Of Wales College and 122 against Devananda College and also represented the Joe-Pete Mini battle in 2020.

His parents influenced him to play cricket and backed him all the way by getting the required cricketing gear.

“My father Heshan De Silva(4th year coloursman)captained St. Peters college in 1985 under the head coaching of H.I.K. Fernando and Brian Seneviratane.

Even my eldest brother Banuka De Silva opened the batting for the Peterites in 2017-2020 under head coach Malinda Warnapura. Even now they are supporting me with anything, whenever I require any help to continue playing cricket,” said Thiloka.

Thiloka scored over 250 runs for the 2nd XI team in the ongoing 2021 season so far with an average of 31.01 in the Inter-School cricket tournament.

His highest score was an unbeaten knock of 76 against Ananda College. He also scored 58 runs in the first innings and followed it up with another 42 in the second innings against S.Thomas College Mount Lavinia, which was an excellent achievement.

“I am really looking forward to representing the St.Peters 1st XI team in both formats by the grace of God ; especially in the upcoming inter school two day match against St.Benedict College Kotahena. The day I achieve that feat, honestly I will be a very a happy cricketer and I will honour all glory to Almighty Jesus ! concluded Thiloka.
