Damindu Lakshan de Silva an outstanding sportsman

School under 14 athletic champion and best athlete 2017, volleyball and elle Player, Karate Black Belt holder Muthumuni Damindu Lakshan de SIlva has brought honour and fame to his Alma Mater Wekada Maha Vidyalaya Dankotuwa. He was born on 30th January 2005 and admitted to the Primary School of Wekada Vidyalaya in 2011 and M. Wasantha was the then Principal of the school.

He commenced Athletics in 2016 and continued upto 2018. In January 2017 he won 100 and 200 metres and came second in 800 metres and was adjudged the under 14 Champion Athlete and the Best Athlete too. His first athletic coach was Asela Sumith but he did not take part in the Divisional Meet. In 2018 he participated in the Inter House under 14 Volleyball Tournament and Elle Tournament and his team was the runner up in Volleyball and Champions in Elle and their Coach was Saman Bandara.

Though he participated in the above games his forte is Karate and his parents Thaminda Saman de Silva and Nadeeka Priyadarshani encouraged their son to proceed with Karate and he came under school Karate Coach Asela Sumith and his first tournament was the 2016 Puttalam District Karate Do Federation Meet and he won Gold Medals for Kumite and Kata and the NWP Meet he grabbed Golds in Kumite and Kata at Sugathadasa Stadium In the following year in the Puttalam District Meet he won Golds for Kata and Kumite and in the NWP School Games he won Gold Medals for Kata and Kumite .

In the All Island Karate Federation Meet in the under 13 age group he won Bronzes for Kata and Kumite and again in 2018 in Puttalam District Meet he won a Gold for Kumite and another Gold for Kata and in the NWP Meet he got a Bronze in Kata and Silver in Kumite In the All Island Schools Meet held in Colombo he won a Gold in Kumite and in the 2019 Puttalam District Meet he got Silvers in Kumite and Kata and in the All Island Schools Meet he won a Bronze in Kumite.

During a span of three years of Karate Dumindu has won 16 medals which consists of nine Golds, three Silvers and four Bronzes. His Principal Mr. Wasantha is always supportive of him.
