Windies make steady start on Day-5

Antigua: The West Indies were well placed at 83 for two in their second innings shortly before lunch on the fifth and final day of the opening Test match against Sri Lanka at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua yesterday.

The home side chasing a victory target of 375 runs, batted cautiously with the overnight pair of Kraigg Brathwaite and Nkrumah Bonner bringing up the 50-run second wicket stand in 146 deliveries.

Sri Lanka of course began proceedings with Suranga Lakmal and Vishwa Fernando but had no success despite troubling the batsmen on a couple of occasions.

However, Lasith Embuldeniya made the first breakthrough for Sri Lanka when he removed the dangerous Brathwaite with a beautiful delivery.

The left-arm spinner deceived the batsman with a straight delivery as the ball sneaked through the huge gap between bat and pad to crash into the stumps.
