Athlete, Karate, and Taekwondo Player Bastian Petharage Divakara Sri Geethanjana has brought honour and fame to his alma mater St. Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa. Diwakara was born in 2005 and he was admitted to his first school Sugathananda Maha Vidyalaya in 2011 . In 2016 he commenced Karate and Taekwondo under Mr. Mallawaarachchi . and his first karate meet was in 2016 the Puttalam District – Do Karate Association meet at which he won a Gold Medal in Kata . In 2017 at the Puttalam District Do Karate Meet he won Golds for Kumite and Kata respectively and in the North Western Province Karate Do Championship he won a Gold for Kumite.
In 2018 his parents Sisira Premarathne amd Gaya Sanjeewani Kumari decided to admit their son to St. Joseph Vaz College Wennappuwa and participating in 2018 Puttalam District Karate Championship he won a Gold Medal and in the North Western Province Karate Championship he grabbed a Silver in Kumite and in the All Island Inter Schools Karate Championship he won a Bronze in Kumite at the under 13 age group. In the same year his parents admitted their son to A. K. T. Club to enhance his skills in Karate and Taekwondo and he came under Mr. Mallawaarachchi and participating at the All Island 2018 Kukiwon Taekwondo Korean Championship he won a Gold Medal and in the North Western Province Championship he won a Gold and in the North Western Province under 16 age group he won another Gold.
He commenced athletics for St. Joseph Vaz College in 2018 and in the 80 metres he came second at the Inter House Sports Meet and participating in the Puttalam District Meet his Relay Team came first in 100x4 event and at the All Island Relay Carnival his team was placed third in 200x4 and in the 50x4 sixth place and 100x4 sixth place and in the All Island School Games they were third in 100x4 and in the Sri Lanka Schools Athletics Championship in the 100x4 event their team received merit certificates.
In 2019 in the under 16 age group he was fourth in the 400 metres and at the Puttalam District Meet their team came first in 400x4 relay event and he came third in the 400 metres Individual Race and his school came fourth in the under 16 event at the John Tarbet Meet in the 400x4. This year Divakara is aiming to win the 800 metre event at the John Tarbet Meet. His Rector Rev. Fr. Priyanjeewa Gunaratne and Master in Charge of Athletics. Amila and Prefect of Games Gamunu are always supportive of him.
