Dian Gomes, vice chairman of AIBA Marketing Commission

Dian Gomes, who is an executive committee member of the world boxing governing body AIBA, was appointed as the vice chairman of the AIBA Marketing Commission out of 33 candidates. Out of the five members elected by the 200-member federation of AIBA, Gomes was chosen as the deputy to Cezary Jedlinski of Poland.

Over the years he has also held successful tenures in AIBA as a member of the Finance Commission, the marketing commission and the women’s commission as well.

As president of the Boxing Association of Sri Lanka, he has been a strong advocate and supporter in building high-performing athletes, especially from rural areas.He became the first Sri Lankan to be appointed to the Commonwealth Advisory Board of Sports in 2014 and is also the first Sri Lankan to be appointed to the Executive Committee of the Asian Boxing Federation last year.

Dian is always a good motivator for all the boxers and his vision is to popularise this sport all over the country. A former Sri Lankan junior flyweight boxing champion, Gomes has been a leading corporate personality for the better part of three decades.

A former president of CIMA Sri Lankan Division, he was the Group Director of MAS Holdings and later Chairman of Hela Clothing.

He currently serves as the Honorary Consul of Georgia in Sri Lanka and on the Board of Nestle Lanka PLC. He was also appointed to the Public Service Commission.
