Games Captain, Cricketer, Athlete, Netball, Volleyball and Elle Player Gamage Thanuja Damayanthi brought honour and fame to her Alma Mater National School Dehiowita with her deeds on the sports field.

Thanuja’s first school was Puwakpitiya North Maha Vidyalaya Homagama and her first class teacher was Mrs. Kularatne. She showed a keen interest for sports from her younger days and participating in the under eight and 10 ages she swept the board in Long Jump, High Jump and 100 metres at the School Sports Meets and she was the Champion in both age groups.

After passing the Grade Five Scholarship she was admitted to the President’s College Avissawella and there too from Grade Six to Eleven she did 200, 400 and 800 metres and when she was under 17 she participated in 200, 800 and 1500 metres and in addition she did the Marathon in her second year and her coach was Mrs. Samantha Kulatunga and the Prefect of Games was Mrs. Jayantha Peiris.

She captained the Vijayaba House at the Inter House Netball Tournament and from under 15 to 17 the House emerged Champions and at the Divisional Tournaments they could not perform well and her Teachers in Charge were Mrs. Manori Vas Gunawardene and Mrs. Samanthi Kulatunga respectively. She captained the school under 13, 15 and 17 Elle Teams and the coach was.

Danushka and Master in Charge Wickramanayake and in Volleyball too she was the Inter House and School Captain and in 2016 and 2017 they participated in Divisional Tournaments and she captained the team and her coach was . Chamara.

She was the Head Prefect and the Games Captain of the school. After passing the Ordinary Level Examination she joined National School Dehiowita and there too she did athletics and did the same events and performed well and came upto Provincial Level and in the under 20 age group she did 400, 800 and 1500 metres and went up to Divisional level and in the Open Marathon she came first and her Master in Charge was Neomal Perera.

In her first year in 2018 she was selected for the School Rugger Team and in the All Island Tournament they were the Champions and she was selected to the 50 member pool and in the 2018 Inter Schools Rugby Sevens Tournament they emerged Plate Champions and in 2019 they were the All Island Milo Runners Up and she Captained the team. With these performances under her belt she was selected for the Pool of 50 players for the Indian Tour. She was awarded School Colours and her Coach was Priyantha and the Teacher in Charge was Mrs. Patricia Fernando.

In 2018 she captained the House Cricket Team and her House emerged Champions.

She was selected for the Kegalle District under 18 team and she captained the team at the school Cricket Carnival and her Team Golden Lions won the Trophy.

She played Elle also and came under Asanka and she captained the Volleyball Team and she was appointed as the Schools Games Captain.

She led the Inter House Team in Netball and the Teacher in Charge was Mrs. Kalani Abegunawardene. In addition she did Taekwondo under Mrs. Piyumi Nelumika and Sampath and she represented the under 18 team.

In this context her Principal Rohana Gamage and the Deputy Principals A. K. Robertson and M Bandara were always supportive of her.
